As a photographer, I consider myself an avid hobbyist. My passion for it began
in school (1976-1978) when I had access to a great black and white lab. I found
taking, developing and printing my photographs to be a very therapeutic
endeavor. I bought my first SLR, a Canon A1, and began creating images of
everything. When I no longer had access to a lab, my photography turned to just
shooting vacations and family snapshots. When digital photography came along I realized
the lab was now on the computer, and I could enjoy the same benefits I had with
the lab, but only sitting at my desk! Since then, I have been back at it!
I
have never narrowed in on a single specialty and continue to this day to enjoy
landscapes, portraits, sports, nature, macros of flowers, insects, etc., and the
list goes on. I don't think I have ever photographed anything that I did not
enjoy.
If I had to pick a favorite , I would have to say I have found I
love capturing portraits of people. I say capturing because I find it a
challenge to capture the true essence, or soul, of a person. It is easy to just
take a portrait, but to truly capture that person can be a difficult task. A day
strolling the streets taking street portraits is a day well spent.
